Bright eyed and eager to go, we arrived at the Minneapolis
airport, unaware of the trials ahead on our very first day of traveling..
Our flight took 7 and a half hours to get to Paris, France (after
getting on an hour delayed flight in Minneapolis). On the plane we enjoyed a
crying/screaming toddler who was sick and had an ear infection. The food was
pretty good, and we maybe got an hour of touch-and-go sleep during the flight.
When we touched down we sat on the Tarmac for 2 and a half hours waiting just
to get up to the unloading gate for the to get off the plane (because they had
a snow storm and no one came in to work so the airport was way understaffed).
We ended up standing in line for almost two hours trying to get a flight change
because our flight to Slovenia was cancelled. Wandered aimlessly from place to
place trying to switch flights and figure out where to go, with no wifi at the
airport to guide our weary souls. All our luggage is still missing, and the
planes aren't even all unloaded from the morning or the afternoon flights after
us (as of when we landed at
9:30am till 5pm when we left on a hotel shuttle) and we don't know when or if
it will get unloaded today. Literally hundreds of people waiting hours for
luggage that never got unloaded. Been
up for more than 24 hours with less than 3 hours of sleep, an am get spotty
wifi at a little hotel to write this blog. We can't even stay here because our
shuttle doesn't run early enough in the morning for our next flight to Germany
and then Slovenia. Hundreds of people looking for lost luggage at the airport
in twenty different languages-and the planes from this morning not even fully
unloaded because people couldn't get to the airport to work was quite the
sight...all because of a snowstorm-too bad it wasn't Minnesota, that'd be a
normal day. ;) Got a hotel room comped, but can only enjoy it for a few
hours because the morning shuttle leaves at 5am and our flight is at 6:45 to
Munich, Germany and we have to get there early to look for our luggage and
figure out when/where we will get that if it is still missing-so we will head
back to the airport to sleep overnight with the last shuttle at 11:40pm. Free
dinner starts at 7pm and it is currently 6pm and we are just sitting down at
our hotel. To top it off we are running on not even 3 hours of sleep...but we
still have our hopes up, and good attitudes that things will look up.
What a day and it's not even over...I guess I signed up for an
adventure. Hopefully tomorrow brings easier travels.
